Dear valued partners,
As you may already be aware, the energy trading arm of Spark Energy ceased to trade as of last Friday although there is hope for their 400 strong team by the way of a conditional offer from award winning energy supplier, OVO Energy. There is more information found here in this BBC report: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-46316603
How does this affect residents who are on supply with Spark Energy?
The advice is to take a meter reading and do not switch. Here’s a snippet from an Ofgem statement found on the above report:
Mary Starks, Ofgem’s executive director for consumers and markets, said: “Our message to energy customers with Spark is there is no need to worry, as under our safety net we will make sure your energy supplies are secure and your credit balance is protected.
“Ofgem will now choose a new supplier and ensure you get the best deal possible. Whilst we’re doing this our advice is to ‘sit tight’ and don’t switch.
“You can rely on your energy supply as normal. We will update you when we have chosen a new supplier, who will then get in touch about your new tariff.”
She added: “Although we have seen a number of supplier failures this year, our safety net procedures are working as they should to protect customers.”
How does this affect your relationship with Energy Angels?
I’m extremely proud of how robust our business model is and put in simple terms, it’s business as usual. If you have issues with supplies not being on, regardless of who the energy supplier is, we’re here to resolve those for you as per our normal 4 Hour SLA. We have arrangements in place with other energy suppliers and will continue to look after your void properties and your residents during the move in period and throughout. We’ll be contacting you with alternative switching options as more news unfolds, but that has no bearing on our day to day service of ensuring power is on and tenants are always given choice upon move in.
What does the future hold for our relationship with Energy Angels and the energy market in general?
It’s much easier to comment on our own ability to serve you which continues to go from strength to strength with no let up. I would predict some tough times ahead for some energy suppliers, whilst others more geared for growth through smart use of technology and renewable energy will see some excellent times ahead.
We’ll continue to keep you updated and of course if you or your residents have any concerns at all, we’re here to help. Just call us on 01902 585500.
